After the massive success of the Kindle 1 and Kindle 2, Amazon is sure to introduce a Kindle 3 in our opinion, perhaps in late 2010 or early 2011 at the latest. We have heard several internet rumors, but these are often of questionable reliability. The Kindle 3 will undoubtedly be designed by Amazon's Lab126 team, which created the two previous Kindle models, but there has been no official word on anything related to a Kindle 3 as yet.
One rumor dating from February 2009 (in Digitimes citing unidentified Amazon sources), mentioned that the Kindle 3 might be ready by Christmas 2009 and would be larger (likely referring to the Kindle DX which launched in June and not a "Kindle 3") and have a touchscreen (though the DX did not have this feature).
As of late 2009 there were also some spoof "Kindle 3" pictures and videos circulating the internet, but nothing we'd put much credence in.
Jeff Bezos may yet go with a touchscreen interface for the Kindle 3, though the degradation in legibility this causes has hobbled several competitors' eReaders. Likewise, there could be Wifi capability, user changeable batteries, removable memory, or even a two-screen LCD device as with the Nook. However, all this is pure speculation--we'll have to wait and see, and as we get more information on the Kindle 3, we'll add it to this preview.
Connecting: Having launched the Whispernet EVDO cellular infrastructure in the US for the Kindle 1 and then made partner agreements in 100+ countries for global coverage for the Kindle 2, we can expect the Kindle 3 to use the same network infrastructure.
Accessories: Kindle 3 accessories are as yet unknown
Price: Again, the price at which a future Kindle 3 may be sold is unknown.
